    COMING SPRING 2010!

    The Scottish Armada
    by
    John Young

The year is 1587.  King Philip II of Spain has suffered greatly at the hands of Elizabeth I -- commerce has halted, citizens are being murdered, ambassadors openly insulted and territories invaded.

Elizabeth has seen her Protestant subjects in Spain suffer torture and death under the Spanish Inquisition.

Mary Stuart, the former Mary Queen of Scots, a staunch Catholic and friend of Philip, has been imprisioned by Elizabeth on trumped up charges to the fury of Scottish Catholic Lords who were in regular contact with King Philip through a colleague, Robert Bruce.

The Protestant English parliament and the people cried out for the head of Mary Queen of Scots.  For Elizabeth, Mary's death would solve a multitude of problems, or so she thought . . . . .

The discovery of Spanish galleons in the Solway Firth inspired John Young to write about a little know piece of Scotland's history.  John's research revealed the involvement of Scottish Catholic Lords with Philip II of Spain, and their plan to land Spanish troops at Kirkcudbright near Caerlaverock Castle in 1588.  The Spanish were to join the Scottish Catholics to attack England.

John Young was born in Glasgow, and now lives in Kinsale, Ireland.
